Norman 'Tex' Brostmeyer of Pinckneyville

Norman "Tex" Brostmeyer, 91, of Pinckneyville passed away at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Du Quoin Nursing and Rehab.

Tex was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Pinckneyville, a son to William and Emma (Feltmeyer) Brostmeyer. He married Patricia Hartwell Feb. 11, 1961, in Pinckneyville, and she preceded him in death Jan. 18, 2002.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific theater. Tex was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville. He served as Perry County sheriff and was an auditor for the State of Illinois Transportation Department. Tex was very active in the Republican Party as a lifelong member and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Coulterville and Pinckneyville VFWs. He loved Pinckneyville Panthers basketball and playing bingo and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.  

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Larry) West of Pinckneyville and Peggy (Mark) Allen of Beaverton, Ore.; four grandchildren, Tod (Denise) Hardacre of Okeechobee, Fla., Jon (Jessica) Hardacre of Summerville, S.C., and Knox and Campbell Allen of Beaverton, Ore.; three great-grandchildren, Christian and William Hardacre and Makaya Whitehead; and several nieces and nephews.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother and sister-in-law, Euclid (Betty) Brostmeyer; and in-laws Maxine (Elmer) Lueker, Bill (Julia) Hartwell and Mary Ellen (Henry) Justice. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville with the Rev. Cindy Bean officiating. Interment will be at Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville. Military graveside services will be provided by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post 2504 of Pinckneyville.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Perry County Jail Museum.
