Mary Ellen Atchison of Chester

Mary Ellen Atchison, 73, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 7:53 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at Manor at Craig Farm in Chester, Illinois.

She was born to the late Wilbur and Vivian (nee McConkey) Rader on March 31, 1944. After her father's death, she was raised by her mother and stepfather Louis Maes.

She married Paul Robert Atchison on May 1, 1965 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2003.

Before her marriage, Mary Ellen was a substitute teacher. After she was married she was a homemaker, child care provider and an Avon representative. She also had worked at Lindsey's Super Stop and had been a manager at MotoMart in Chester.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois. Mary Ellen was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Chester.

Survivors include six children - Mike (Denice) Atchison, Chester; Tim (Wendy) Atchison, Chester; Jeri Hooker, Fairview Heights; Tara (Donny) Brant, Chester; Carrie Atchison, Chester and Marcy Atchison, Collinsville.

Additional survivors are grandchildren Sara (Chris) Childers, Megan Atchison, Mikayla Atchison, Brenton Atchison, Morgan Atchison, Jacob Atchison, Billy Hooker, Erin Hooker, Holly Hooker, Josh Smith, Clinton (Stephanie) Brant, Brandon Woods, Sean Brant, Cody Brant, Danny Pemberton, Kelli Atchison, John Hanger, Gabriel Turner, Danny Turner, Nova Yankey, Katie Brunkhorst, Alexis Brunkhorst and Savannah Seyler

Other survivors are great-grandchildren Josie Childers, Lucas Brant, Miles Woods, Elias Black, and Zoe Atchison

She was preceded in death by parents and step-father, husband, Paul Atchison, and one son, Ty Atchison.

Funeral mass took place Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester with The Very Rev. Eugene H. Wojcik officiating.

Interment is in Emery Cemetery in Rockwood, Illinois. Memorials can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or School, Emery Cemetery or the American Heart Association.

Visitation has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Pechachek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester.
