Charles Lee “Charlie” Conwell of Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - Charles Lee "Charlie" Conwell, 63, formerly of Galatia, passed away at 4:04 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, in Herrin Hospital.

He was born Nov. 11, 1953, in Harrisburg to Charles Kenneth and Edna Lee (Clark) Conwell.

Charlie worked as a butcher and, most recently, for Russell Oil Company in Galatia.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Galatia and Galatia Masonic Lodge 684.

Charlie was an avid sports fan and dedicated to the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved trains and was a ham radio operator.

Survivors include his son, Russell Conwell of Benton; sister, Emily Anderson of Galatia; nephew, Randy Anderson and wife Jeanette of Galatia; great-nephews, Patrick Anderson and Tyler Anderson, both of Galatia; and 10 cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Devere Conwell; paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Hariet Conwell; maternal grandparents, Henry and Lizzie Clark; five aunts and uncles; and one cousin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Derek Downs officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. by Galatia Masonic Lodge 684.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Cemetery in Charlie's honor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
