Virginia Rose Goolsby of Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - Virginia Rose Goolsby, 91, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, in Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Harrisburg to Fred and Reva (Robinson) Hicks. On Sept. 27, 1942, she married Elmer Goolsby, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2001.

Virginia was a member of Mizpah General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Gene Goolsby and wife Lynda of Marion; daughter, Thelma Stilley and husband Charles of Harrisburg; daughter, Norma Harner and husband Nolen of Harrisburg; son, Jerry Goolsby and wife Darlene of Harrisburg; daughter, Erma Roberts and husband Gary of Raleigh; daughter, Brenda Craig and husband Gilbert of Marion; daughter, Jo Ann Craig and husband Robert of Bay Minette, Alabama; daughter, Lisa Hubbard and husband Jimmy of Harrisburg; daughter, Letha Baker of Harrisburg; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Cole of Florida; and brother, Leroy Hicks and wife Phillis of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Goolsby; grandson, Brian Yaw; sister, Lotella Williams; and son-in-law, Scott Baker.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with Shannon Goolsby officiating. Burial will follow in Butler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 28, at the funeral home.
