Georgianna Richey of Marion

Georgianna J. Richey, 64, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her home.

Georgianna was born April 4, 1953 in Metropolis, the daughter of George and Doris (Hamby) Jenkins. She married James K. Richey on June 15, 1974 in Johnston City, and together they shared over 42 years of marriage.

Georgianna began her teaching career in Johnston City. After moving to the Marion Unit District 2, she taught at the Creal Springs, Jefferson and Washington grade schools and also at the high school. Georgianna received her bachelor's and master's in education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

She had a passion for the arts and stayed involved in various activities throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed directing plays and musicals and oil painting. She passionately taught for many years and took great pride in the successes of her students. She always enjoyed time with family and friends and spoke fondly of childhood and high school memories.

Survivors include: her husband, James K. Richey of Marion; daughters, Sarah Dianne Marsh and husband, Daniel, of Edwardsville, and Lindsey Marie Clendenin and husband, Matt, of Lumberton, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Cameron, Liam, Lucas and Avery Marsh of Edwardsville; one sister, Laura Dianne Limberg, and husband, Randy, of Lexington Park, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Sue Norris of Fort Worth, Texas, Jane (John) White of Sherman, Texas; brother-in-law, John D. Richey, of Johnston City; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Doris Jenkins.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. James Slone officiating.  Burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m.Thursday, also at the funeral home.
