Marianne Lyon

<span>HARRISBURG &ndash; Marianne Lyon, 79, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her family.</span>

<span>Marianne was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Harrisburg to Luther and Margie Bell (Dixon) Alexander. On June 21, 1958, she married Howard E. &ldquo;Gene&rdquo; Lyon, who survives.</span>

<span>In almost 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, who include a daughter, Julie and husband Tim McRoy, and two sons, David and wife Lisa Lyon and Toby Lyon, all of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, who she adored, Andrea, Aaron and Alexander McRoy, Lydia and Chloe Lyon, Brooke Crane, Madison Medley and Garrett Jenkins; great-grandchild, Phoenix Womick; special nephew, who lived in the family home, Kenny Jenkins; many other nieces and nephews; and brother, Curtis Dixon Alexander.</span>

<span>Marianne worked as a secretary at Harrisburg High School for several years. She later owned and operated Brides Boutique and Marianne&rsquo;s catering, where she served many brides and prom-goers from all over Southern Illinois.</span>

<span>She was a lifelong member of First Church of God, where she served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, youth leader and various other boards. She held dear her time with her church family.</span>

<span>Marianne enjoyed china painting and was a member of Shawnee China Painters Guild. She was a graduate of HTHS class of 1956 and loved organizing monthly meetings and class reunions.</span>

<span>She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Guthrie, Lyndel &ldquo;Toad&rdquo; and Tom Alexander.</span>

<span>Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Dan Masters officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home.</span>

<span>Donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or First Church of God Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.</span>
