Larry Gene Bowers

<span>HARRISBURG &ndash; Larry Gene Bowers, 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at his home.</span>

<span>He was born June 2, 1943, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Alonzo Quentin and Dorothy (Hafford) Bowers. He married Mary Sisky on Jan. 18, 1969, and she survives.</span>

<span>Larry was very active in the community. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg and served as past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.</span>

<span>He also was a member of Harrisburg Masonic Lodge 325 and an Ainad Shriner.</span>

<span>Larry was a Vietnam Air Force veteran and an avid fan of Cardinal baseball. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, along with his beloved cat, Charlie, and granddog, Willy.</span>

<span>Left behind are his wife, Mary Bowers of Harrisburg; two daughters, Lisa and Chris Lawson of Mattoon and Amy and Bryan Elders of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Alic Bianco, Cameron Bianco, Abbey Mae Elders and Miranda Elders; great-grandchild, Knox Boon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.</span>

<span>He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lonnie Bowers.</span>

<span>A memorial mass will be said at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.</span>

<span>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his grandchildren&rsquo;s college funds.</span>
