HARRISBURG – Larry Gene Bowers, 73, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at his home.
He was born June 2, 1943, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Alonzo Quentin and Dorothy (Hafford) Bowers. He married Mary Sisky on Jan. 18, 1969, and she survives.
Larry was very active in the community. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg and served as past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He also was a member of Harrisburg Masonic Lodge 325 and an Ainad Shriner.
Larry was a Vietnam Air Force veteran and an avid fan of Cardinal baseball. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, along with his beloved cat, Charlie, and granddog, Willy.
Left behind are his wife, Mary Bowers of Harrisburg; two daughters, Lisa and Chris Lawson of Mattoon and Amy and Bryan Elders of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Alic Bianco, Cameron Bianco, Abbey Mae Elders and Miranda Elders; great-grandchild, Knox Boon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lonnie Bowers.
A memorial mass will be said at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his grandchildren"s college funds.
