James Turner

<span>GALATIA -- James H. "Jim" Turner, 87, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home.</span>

<span>He was born May 1, 1929, in Williamson County to James Guy and Elizabeth Chamness Turner. He married the former Norma J. Puckett on Aug. 5, 1955, and she survives.</span>

<span>Mr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Will Scarlet coal mine. He also was a member of United Mine Workers of America.</span>

<span>Survivors include his wife, Norma; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth (Cindi) Turner of El Reno, Oklahoma, and Darrell (Martha) Turner of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew, Amy and Mark, Frank P. and Jessica, Lynn and Chris, Ethen and Carson; eight great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and George Stavroulakis of Zeigler. </span>

<span>He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bennie Joe Turner, Ronald Turner and Edward Lynn Turner.</span>

<span>Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.</span>

<span>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Saline County chapter of 4-H.</span>
