GALATIA -- James H. "Jim" Turner, 87, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1929, in Williamson County to James Guy and Elizabeth Chamness Turner. He married the former Norma J. Puckett on Aug. 5, 1955, and she survives.
Mr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Will Scarlet coal mine. He also was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth (Cindi) Turner of El Reno, Oklahoma, and Darrell (Martha) Turner of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew, Amy and Mark, Frank P. and Jessica, Lynn and Chris, Ethen and Carson; eight great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and George Stavroulakis of Zeigler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bennie Joe Turner, Ronald Turner and Edward Lynn Turner.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Saline County chapter of 4-H.
