Beulah Holiness Camp kids aiding the community

Monday the youth shoveled gravel into the foundation for a porch at the newest Saline County Habitat for Humanity house in Harrisburg and cleaned the yard. Tuesday they were cleaning litter in the area of the Eldorado Teen Park, Lions Club tennis court and the bike path.

For Anna Corbitt of Bellville service is an important part of the Beulah camping experience.

"I haven't missed a years since I was three. I'm 21 now," Corbitt said.

"I really look forward to this Mission Blitz. It's fun helping out the community and hanging out with my friends."

Kayla Horner of Springfield is in her fourth year of camping and Mission Blitzing with Beulah and looks forward each year to helping out and camp activities.

The heat is oppressive, limiting the work to about two hours in the morning.

"I think it just slowly get hotter every years for as long as I remember. I don't remember it this hot as a kid. By the end of the night I'm really tired," Corbitt said.

Heat does not slow down the soccer games at Beulah, according to Benjamin Kozar. While the hard work is done in the morning, the hottest part of the day is reserved for soccer.

This is Kozar's second year at Beulah. His mother is the music director.

"It's a lot of fun getting to work, hanging out with friends and learning about God," Kozar said.

For the rest of the week the Mission Blitz projects will be at the camp, according to Danny Beasley who arranged the projects.

"We have one cabin that is used as a nursery. We'll paint that. There is a building project behind the tabernacle and we'll start tearing it down for a building project next year," Beasley said.

The Mission Blitz involved about 20 high school and college age kids, Beasley said.

"It's a very good group of kids willing to do whatever," Beasley said.

The camp ends Friday night.
