"She died due to respiratory failure," said Steve Lockyear, chief deputy at the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office. "Contributing factors were a drug overdose."
He said Young, who was an emergency room registration clerk at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, was admitted to the hospital April 6 after being flown by medical helicopter from Eldorado.
Linda Young's husband, Roger Dale Young, was arrested March 31 in connection with a murder-for-hire scheme. Roger Young's formal charge is "procuring an individual to murder his wife in return for monetary considerations."
Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw said Linda Young's death will not affect the charges against Roger Young.
"The state police have done their investigation. All indications are that it was a suicide and it will have no bearing on the charges against him," Henshaw said.
Young is survived by a daughter, Casey Carlile, and a son, Colt Young, both of Eldorado.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, with burial in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
