Two Assistant U.S. Attorneys who prosecuted former Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond Martin were recognized by Attorney General Eric Holder in Washington D.C. Friday, according to a release from U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen R. Wigginton.
Holder and Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys Director H. Marshall Jarrett honored retired Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael C. Carr of Carbondale and current Assistant U.S. Attorney James C. Cutchin of Carmi.
Carr and Cutchin attended the 28th annual Director's Awards Ceremony where Holder honored 163 members of the Department of Justice at the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building. The two were given the awards of "Superior Performance by a AUSA -- Criminal" for their investigation and prosecution of Martin, which resulted in Martin's conviction and imprisonment.
Also honored was District Budget Officer Julia A. (Hentzel) Crowe of Edwardsville for "Superior Performance in Administration."
