Overhaul progressing at Eldorado's sewage plant

ELDORADO -- By July Eldorado's sewage treatment plant should have its first overhaul in 30 years completed. The $1.5 million project was over a year in the works when the construction phase began about three months ago. Now nearly every day workers are at the plant replacing or renovating everything from the motors inside the activated sludge plants to a new roof and doors on the lab building.

ELDORADO — A large crop of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts swelled the crowd at the Eldorado Veterans’ Day observance, held at the monument at the Old City Hall, on Friday.

The combined units of veteran’s organizations stepped off from the American Legion Hall for the police-escorted march to the monument, timed to arrive at the Armistice hour.

Eldorado Council assured TIF will aid, not harm, school system

ELDORADO — Eldorado City Council is moving forward with plans to establish a Tax Increment Financing District.

The tentative plan for the TIF district, undefined publicly as to the boundaries, apparently has one primary area of concern to the council.

Commissioners and Mayor Rocky James at a Tuesday night meeting of council were adamant that the TIF, if established, does no harm to the finances of the school district.

Eldorado — Continuing a long-running tradition the Eldorado Woman's Club on Saturday conducted the annual Halloween costume contest at the 5-way Town and Country stage.

Following the contest and awarding of both prizes and treats, the youngsters wandered down the street for the Trunk-or-Treat event.
 

Hospital president, in his best Halloween finery, visits school with invitation

ELDORADO — Tom Barry, president/CEO of Ferrell Hospital, dressed in his Sunday-go-to-meeting best, complete with striped top hat, visited the Eldorado Elementary School Thursday morning to hand out Trick or Treat bags in preparation for Eldorado's Trunk or Treat event being held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday on Locust Street.

Eldorado city crews say they are ready for Halloween

ELDORADO — Eldorado street and police officials report they are ready for the community’s Halloween activities on Saturday night, which will again feature operation of a trunk-or-treat on Locust Street, which will cause the closing of several cross streets at Locust and a large portion of Locust.

Public Safety Commissioner Bob Briddick and Police Chief Shannon Deuel asked the public’s cooperation, encouraging motorists to be alert and aware kids will be on the streets of the community from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Ferrell breaks ground, plans work targeted at $9 million

ELDORADO — When Ferrell Hospital of Eldorado on Tuesday broke ground for a major addition for an expanded health care provider area that will allow consolidation of several locations into the main hospital, a much larger project was announced by hospital President/CEO Thomas F. Barry Jr.

Barry said the hospital is launching a fund drive for a huge expansion program. He said the drive, with a goal set at $9 million, already has reached $1.7 million through gifts and grants.

When complete, he said, the hospital will add “new facilities” that will expand the hospital by 17,000 to 18,000 square feet.

While he did not define all of the plans of the hospital board, he did say the goals will include a cancer treatment center at Ferrell.

Groundbreaking for new rural health building Tuesday

ELDORADO — The groundbreaking ceremony for expansion and renovation of the rural health clinic building at Ferrell Hospital takes place Tuesday afternoon.

The new building will feature three additional provider suites including nine exam rooms and three physician offices. The expansion will include a centralized registration and business office.

Eldorado's livestock ban may get 4-H, FFA revision

Eldorado City Council on Tuesday indicated a recently passed livestock ordinance banning everything from chickens to large reptiles and large snakes will go into force. However, a couple of revisions are expected to be taken up by the council at its next meeting.

Several city residents were on hand at the Tuesday meeting seeking revisions to the ordinance.

Eldorado enacts ordinance that bans variety of animals

ELDORADO — If you enjoy the clucking of a chicken, the crow of a rooster or stepping into the backyard to gather fresh eggs for breakfast, you should not move to Eldorado.

Should you enjoy an environment free from lions and tigers and snakes longer than 5 feet, you might want to consider moving to the community.

Eldorado Council told all is ready for Town and Country Days

ELDORADO — A couple of warnings were issued by Eldorado City Council on Tuesday and the body expressed satisfaction with the completion of city work prior to Town and Country days.

The annual festival begins tonight and annually the days leading up to it heap extra work on city employees trying to tidy the city for visitors.

Mayor Rocky James and city commissioners expressed satisfaction with the work this year.

Eldorado city officials taking court action on a dilapidated building

ELDORADO--The city of Eldorado has filed a court action against owners of a building at 897 Veterans Drive.
