The Harrisburg High School speech team capped another successful season with a solid sectional tournament and a good showing at the state tournament in Peoria.
The team qualified five events, involving, 11 students, for the state tournament last weekend in Peoria.
None of the Harrisburg participants broke into the final rounds. However, performance in the round placed 12th at state. The performance in the round took first at the Charleston sectional tournament. Members of the performance in the round include Taylor Boone, Betsy Dick, DJ Duncan, Tre Ingram, Darcy O'Dell, Maggie Russell, Philip West and Meredith Wolf. The title of the piece is "Lessons from Under the Bed," written by Robi Mahan and Zach Hanks.
At state, Reiana Mahan took 16th in radio speaking and 14th in special-occasion speaking. She took second in both events at the sectional.
Hannah Owen took 17th at state in oratorical declamation. She took second at sectionals.
Keturah Tanner was 13th at state and third at sectionals in informative speaking.
Team coaches include Sara DeNeal, Hanks, Robi Mahan and Tina Mondino.
