Eldorado school board is posting the 2010 to 2011 district budget for public perusal, but the numbers may not mean very much.
Superintendent Gary Siebert said considering the state remains behind in payments of over $400,000 in money owed in the 2009 to 2010 school year. Some of that money has trickled in such as the final $4,000 payment for driver's education, some Title 1 money provided by the federal stimulus act and $66,844 for regular transportation with two more similar payments due.
"That's why I'm so concerned about 2010 to 2011," Siebert said.
"They say they'll fund early childhood at 100 percent of what they were supposed to fund last year, but so much money is coming to us this year from last year.
"Of all the years I've been doing this, and it's a lot, this is the scariest year."
Siebert said the state could say they are funding programs and then either not pay or pay too late. He said all he knows to do is take the state at its word and spend as little money as possible in preparation for a loss in funding.
Siebert said this year's budget is basically the same as the amended budget of last year which reflects a cash balance of $1,466,240 in the education fund, $24,054 in operations and maintenance, $27,945 in debt service, $10,535 in transportation, $195,289 in municipal retirement/social security, $43,171 in working cash, $21,936 in Tort and $47,678 in fire prevention and safety.
The board set a budget hearing 15 minutes prior to the Sept. 16 board meeting.
The board employed Chris Drone as a teacher.
