Architect Mike Baysinger told the board during Monday's special meeting the state appears to be intending to partially fund new school construction.
The board has to decide what it needs and the state will send a letter indicating whether the district has been approved.
The board members discussed whether it would be best to build a kindergarten through eighth grade school and renovate the high school or to build a kindergarten through 12th grade school. The state has traditionally funded 75 percent of elementary schools and 58 to 60 percent of high schools.
The board was initially working with a figure of $10.5 million for the cost of the kindergarten through eighth grade building with the state paying $7.875 and the district paying $2.625.
Tim Pribble suggested a figure to be spent that would involve an annual addition of $400 to $600 to property taxes based on ownership of $100,000 worth of property.
Pribble asked incoming Superintendent Beth Rister to figure how much money the district would have to work with based on the $400 tax and the $600 tax and to provide the figures to board members prior to the regular meeting March 23.
