Catskin Days concluded; it was a success

CARRIER MILLS — The annual Catskin Days, which started Thursday and ended Saturday, was a great success, committee member Johnnie Wilkins said.

Each night the downtown grounds were packed and performances were well-attended, she said.

“We were kept busy selling armbands,” she said.

Retired Marion police sergeant sworn in as interim Carrier Mills chief

CARRIER MILLS — Carrier Mills has a new interim police chief, Charles Rubright, a retired sergeant of the Marion Police Department who currently is serving as a part-time Carrier Mills officer.

Appointment of Rubright to the position of chief was not a clean-cut move at a special meeting of Carrier Mills Village Board on Tuesday.

Rubright, a veteran of 18 years on the Marion force, was proposed for the chief's position after council accepted the resignation of Chief Billy Duncan.

Carrier Mills seeks remedy for deteriorating building

CARRIER MILLS — Mayor Louis Shaw says a building at the intersection of Main Street and U.S. Route 45 continues to be a nuisance. The building, owned by Fred Hutson, split and started dropping bricks to the pavement on Route 45 last year. After discussion at board meetings, Hutson agreed to take the front off the building, put on a new roof and get it in better condition after the winter weather cleared, Shaw said. However, nothing has happened since the front was taken off the building and the roof was removed.
