Opal Mann to turn 90, family hoping to shower her with cards

CARRIER MILLS - Opal Mann of Carrier Mills will turn 90 on July 30, and her family hopes friends and well-wishers will send cards, notes and messages for each year of her life.

"Our mother, Mrs. Opal Mann is celebrating a monumental birthday on July 30, 2020. Mrs. Mann will be turning 90 years young on this special day," says Cynthia Jones, one of Opal's daughters. "My siblings and I had hoped to host a celebration, but as we are still experiencing a global pandemic, it seems our celebration must be canceled. Since we can't all gather together in person, we would love to shower her with cards, notes and well-wishes on a life well-lived."

Jones said she is one of 12 of Opal's children still living, and that in a normal year, she'd be at home with her mother to celebrate her birthday.

"Usually, I get back home three or four times a year, but this year's a little different," Jones said. "Still, she's blessed to be turning 90, and we're blessed to have her."

Jones said she's hoping the community will help celebrate.

"Our prayer is that she will receive 90 responses," Jones said.

In addition, anyone wishing to drop well-wishes off may do so at a drop box at 424 East End in Carrier Mills on July 30. In addition, there will be a get-together with refreshments provided from 6 to 7 p.m. that day.
