No DHS prom, but an unforgettable prom court

There will be no dancing at the 2020 Du Quoin High School prom, but there will memories nonetheless, especially for the eight seniors named to the prom court and the 12 juniors named as attendants.

With the 2020 prom all but washed out by the coronavirus pandemic, on Monday, the prom royalty was crowned by 2019 Prom Queen Katie Smith, who returned to do the honors.

The candidates knew only that they were coming in for pictures, and were surprised by the ceremony.

Gabrielle Alongi was crowned queen, but King Dasani Edward was working and could not receive his crown. So everybody trouped to Walmart - bringing the sparkly backdrop made by Roger Brand with them - where they surprised Edward with his crown.

The prom committee had done lots of planning and had an awesome night planned. Students will still be able to get a prom T-shirt to commemorate the event by checking their school email and filling out the form before July 10.
