SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- One new COVID-19 case has been reported in Williamson County, while several others in neighboring county are new. In addition, several who have had the virus have recovered.
The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department reported one new case, a man in his 20s, on Tuesday. The person is believed to have acquired the disease through transmission in the community. The man has been isolated at home.
So far, there have been 53 positive cases in Williamson County and 11 in Franklin County. Of those cases, 40 people have recovered in Williamson County and 10 have recovered in Franklin County.
The Southern Seven Heath Department reported five new recovered cases Tuesday. All five are from Union County. Currently, 68 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Southern Seven's region have recovered.
Southern Seven also confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 in its region. They include four people, all from Union County, and a man in his 50s, a woman in her 70s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s.
Southern Seven has reported a cumulative total of 186 cases and four deaths in its area.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,545 new cases of coronavirus statewide, with an additional 146 deaths.
