Early morning fire damages 20s Hideout in Marion

MARION – A popular Marion restaurant, the 20s Hideout, will be closed after a fire just after midnight Thursday caused significant damage to the facility.

Crews of nearly every surrounding department responded to the alarm.

Owner Jeff Diederich posted to the restaurant Facebook account even as the State Fire Marshal was on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Diederich, who had earlier worked at a near record serving at Heaven's Kitchen Marion, a weekly community meal he sponsors, was waiting to see what investigators discovered.

Marion Fire Chief Tim Barnett said that while the Marshal was on the scene, it would likely be Friday afternoon before official reports began to filter in.

In this Facebook post, Diederich wrote that he and his team would assess the damage over the weekend and provide updated information early next week.

"We'll be in a position to rebuild," he said with confidence. "In due time we'll have things back up and going."

The restaurant employs 42 workers.
