Harrisburg Fire Department rescues 4 teens from flooded roadway

HARRISBURG - Four Harrisburg teens are safe after being rescued from flood waters outside of Harrisburg Friday night.

At about 7:42 p.m., Harrisburg Fire Department responded to a report of a car with occupants stranded by floodwaters on Ingram Hill Road southeast of Harrisburg.

The fire department responded with vehicles and a rescue boat and found four Harrisburg-area juveniles on top of their truck.

Harrisburg Fire Chief John Gunning said the teens were examined by medics and then released to parents.

That part of Ingram Hill Road, along with intersecting Brier Creek Road, remain closed while they are flooded.

Gunning also said another car drove into the floodwaters about two hours prior. The occupant of that car was able to get to safety on his own, though waters were chest high, Gunning said.

While Gunning said those who ended up driving into floodwaters are fortunate, that's not always the case. In 2017, a Harrisburg area man drowned in the same area when his truck became stranded in floodwaters.

Prior to Friday's heavy rains, the Harrisburg Fire Department posted a reminder to motorists to avoid flooded roadways.
