Cache River upcoming presentations

CYPRESS - Two upcoming events will be featured at the Cache River Wetlands Center near Cypress.

From 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, Story Hour will feature the bald eagle.

Story hour is the second to last Sunday of each month, and this free program for families with children ages 3 to 8 features a naturalist reading a nature-themed storybook to children.

Each story is paired with a game, hands-on activity or outside nature walk. This month's program features the bald eagle, the national symbol of the U.S. Please preregister with the Cache River Wetlands Center at (618) 657-2064.

Rare plant presentation

From 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, the Cache River Wetlands Center will host a presentation by John Schwegman on "Rare and Little-known Plants of Illinois."

Explore Illinois flora and how unique some plants are that were photographed by Schwegman from throughout Illinois during his career in plant conservation. In the program, he will expound on habitat, range, and just how rare a plant is. Some were discovered in Illinois for the first time, and two are species new to science from southern Illinois.
