1979 Carrier Mills-Stonefort basketball team to be grand marshals of the Catskin Day parade

CARRIER MILLS - Members of Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School's 1979 Supersectional champion basketball team will have a reunion when they gather Saturday to serve as grand marshals in the Catskin Day parade.

Coach Jeff Richey brought a 1979 Harrisburg Daily Register news clipping by our office on Wednesday, with a brief history of the team's 1979 season.

The 1979 team was regional, sectional and Supersectional champions. In the Supersectional, CMSF defeated defending state champion Nashville 50-48 to advance to the state tournament in Champaign.

On Saturday, members of team and all associated personnel will meet at noon in front of the Carrier Mills Municipal Building, 101 N. Mill St. for photos and greetings. At 12:30 p.m., the team will walk to the grade school to board its float.

After the parade, Carrier Mills Mayor Louis Shaw will present trophies to the team.

Following the trophy presentation, the team will travel to the CMSF High School gym and home economics room to visit and reminisce.
