CARTERVILLE -- Four John A. Logan College basketball players and their coach, Kyle Smithpeters, were all impressive in high-profile national showcases conducted last weekend -- one in Georgia and one in Florida.

The Logan players were competing at the Atlanta All-American Showcase, an invitation-only event for 100 top players.

The Logan players were on team No. 3 that finished 2-1. Players included Jay Scrubb, the Vols' top returning player, Eric "Boss" Boone, a transfer from Tallahassee Community College, Jordan Cousin and Mark Lancaster, returnees from last year's Logan team that finished 27-5 and ranked fifth nationally.

Scrubb is generally regarded as the top junior college player in the entire nation after being the only freshman to make the 2019 NJCAA All-America first team.

He and Boone were both selected to the Atlanta all-star team.

Smithpeters coached at the JA45 Showcase in Melbourne, Fla.

His team was 2-0 in the two-day event that ended Saturday and allowed Smithpeters to make his way to the Atlanta games on Sunday.

"All in all, it was a very good weekend for Logan basketball," Smithpeters said.

"Our players all played well and impressed the over 200 coaches in attendance. Scrubb was the best player on the floor."
