Community blood drive on June 19, and other Randolph County briefs

<b>Chester community blood drive June 19</b>

Give the gift of life by donating blood at the Chester Community Blood Drive on June 19, co-sponsored by the American Red Cross. Donations are being taken from 12:45-5:45 p.m. at the American Legion, 500 E. Opdyke, Chester. All donors will receive a free commemorative St. Louis Cardinals Blood Drive T-shirt. Bring some form of ID, such as your Red Cross Donor Card or driver's license, with you. Make an appointment at www.redcrossblood.org or (800) RED-CROSS, although walk-ins are welcome. You can decrease your donation time by using RapidPass, at redcrossblood.org/RapidPass.

<b>Chester Chamber annual dinner</b>

The Chester Chamber of Commerce will host its annual dinner on Friday, June 14 at the Chester Country Club. Social hour is 5:30-6:15 p.m. (cash bar), followed by the Citizen of the Year Award and dinner at 6:30 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing. Casual dress. Tickets are $25 and were being sold at Chester National Bank, Buena Vista National Bank (both locations), from chamber directors or at the chamber office. The deadline to buy them was June 7 so you might be out of luck (but it doesn't hurt to check).

<b>3-Man Scramble coming July 20</b>

Get out your clubs for the 2019 3-Man Scramble, being held July 20 at the Chester Country Club. This year's tournament is one day only. Tee time is 9 a.m. Entry fee, $195/team. Cart fee, $30/team. Trail fee, $10 per day for nonmembers. Fees must be paid when you enter. Make checks payable to the Chester Country Club, and mail them to P.O. Box 166, Chester, 62233. Credit card payments accepted by phone at (618) 826-3168. No outside alcohol allowed.

<b>SWIC orientation</b>

Find out all you need to know to begin your Fall 2019 semester at Southwestern Illinois College by attending one of three orientation sessions Aug. 8 or 9 at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave. Sessions are: 3-5 p.m. Aug., 8; 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 9 and 1-3 p.m. Aug. 9. Come a half-hour early to sign in. Students will get their Student IDs, take a guided campus tour, get a parking sticker and activate their SWIC email and eSTORM account. <b>Student success</b>

Jake Hoffman of Red Bud is among 115 students named to the Honor Roll of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri for the spring 2019 semester. Hoffman is majoring in sport management.

James Ryan of Marissa has been named to the Dean's Honor List at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, for the spring 2019 semester. Ryan is a music performance major.
