Ferrell Hospital's Senior Transitions director talks with Harrisburg Kiwanis

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg Kiwanis met at Ponderosa on Feb 20 for its weekly meeting.

Lauren Sanders, program director for Senior Transitions at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, was guest speaker.

Sanders indicated that she has been at Ferrell Hospital since 2009, directing the only program of its kind for senior citizens in Saline and surrounding counties. This outpatient program assists seniors with grief and loss, changes in or loss of health, medication education, anxiety/nervousness/worry, relationships, depression, aging/failing memory, anger management, relaxation skills, change in eating/sleeping patterns and low self-esteem.

The treatment goals are: to improve daily living skills, to help alleviate symptoms that may interfere with the individual's ability to function, to support the integrity of the family and to maximize independence. There is a psychiatrist available for client consultation when necessary.

Any person with Medicare insurance is eligible for the program with co-payment based on whether or not the individual has a supplemental plan. A physician referral is not needed. A simple call to (618) 273-2273 is all that is required to participate. Information regarding the program may be obtained through the Ferrell Hospital website at www.ferrellhosp.org.
