Man sentenced for illegal gun possession

A previously convicted Carbondale felon was sentenced recently to two years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

State's Attorney Mike Carr says Kaelan D. Posey, 26, of Carbondale was sentenced to 24 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon.

According to Carr, on Feb. 22, 2017, the Carbondale Police Department received a call regarding a "man with a gun" in the 700 block of Robert A. Stalls Ave. Officers responded to the area and located a man, later identified as Posey. An investigative search revealed a loaded High Point .380 pistol in the defendant's waistband.

The defendant is prohibited from possessing firearms following a 2014 conviction on a charge of residential burglary.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department. Assistant State's Attorney Andrew W. Suthard was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
