'Little Library' donated to Pinckneyville Public Library

PINCKNEYVILLE - Pinckneyville Public Library Director Kathy Brostmeyer West recalls a conversation she had a while back with Ray Smith, who told her about seeing a number of Little Free Libraries in a community in which his daughter lives and asked West if Pinckneyville could use something like that. He even offered to build one when she answered, "Yes!"

Fast forward to this month's Library Board meeting on Tuesday when Smith and his wife, Linda, brought the finished Little Free Library to the meeting. Smith's amazing woodworking skills on the replica model was inspired by the Perry County Courthouse in the center of the Pinckneyville square. It included a solar-powered light so people can easily see the books inside. The finished product will be an excellent addition to the community and an encouragement to "Take a Book, Share a Book."

West said that she and the Library Board are considering where to place the Little Library in the community, and Smith's eyes twinkled with an idea for another Little Library, "maybe one especially for kids' books," he said with a smile.
