Local architectural firm shares its annual list of Top 10 S. Illinois landmarks

MARION - This year - 2018 - marks the sixth year of the Baysinger Architects annual Top 10 Architectural Wonders of Southern Illinois list and this year's selections are no less diverse and interesting architecturally than in years past.

This year's Top 10 includes a clock tower, a boardwalk, a museum, and a hotel.

"As we come to the close of the year, it's important we celebrate and recognize the rich architectural diversity of Southern Illinois," said Michael Baysinger, Managing Partner for Baysinger Architects. "The area has a rich, rich history and many of these properties reflect the growth and change to the region over time."

The Top 10 architectural Wonders of Southern Illinois list was created in 2013 and this year marks a total of 60 structures that have been recognized by Baysinger Architects.

Geographically, the 60 come from 37 communities covering 15 counties in Southern Illinois.

In no particular order, here are the Top 10 architectural wonders of Southern Illinois for this year.

5. Edwin W. Halliday House, Cairo 1867

7. Marion Bell Tower, Marion 1972

8. Choate Mental Health Building, Anna 1869

9. Makanda Boardwalk, Makanda 1893

10. Stone House, Chester 1850
