Free seminar about how to pay for long-term care

MARION - SI Elder Law LLC will host a free seminar on the five ways to pay for long term care at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Carbondale Holiday Inn Conference Center.

"In Southern Illinois, the cost of long term care can range from $45,000 a year to over $100,000 a year, depending on the level of care needed," said Attorney Tiffanny H. Sievers. "Fortunately, there are ways to offset this expense with proper planning."

This seminar will discuss the Medicaid five year lookback along with the newly enacted Veteran's Administration three-year look back on asset transfer.

"For several years, the VA has hinted that rule changes would be coming to the Veteran's Aid and Attendance program that helps wartime Veterans with the cost of long-term care," Sievers said. "New rules that went into effect on October 1 have substantially changed the program."

Attendees will learn how to also protect their assets from probate.

The seminar is free and open to the public. RSVP to (618) 997-3500.
