Getting ready for the postseason
With the YellowJacket's 41-6 win last Friday October 12 over Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton Chester improved to 6-2 for the season which will likely be good enough to earn a bid to the 2018 IHSA Football Playoffs.
Chester travels to Edwards County this Friday to close out the regular season against the Fighting Lions. Edwards County is 5-3 and the Jackets are 6-2, so this will likely be a great end-of-the-season matchup.
With a win, the Jackets will have a final regular season record of 7-2 and possibly a home playoff berth. A loss will drop Chester to 6-3 and the Jackets may have to travel for the first round.
Speculation runs rapid this time of year, but a sure fire way to find out details about the 2018 IHSA Football Playoffs will be to follow the announcements from the IHSA at 8 p.m. Saturday Oct. 20 when the IHSA will unveil the brackets. Only at that time will YellowJacket fans know for sure, who, when and when they will play.
Official playoff shirts are being designed to create excitement and pride for Chester's potential drive through the playoffs. Artwork is currently being designed by a professional artist and will be available for viewing this week. Orders are currently being taken to get a jump on playoff week.
YellowJacket fans are encouraged to place an order to help support the Jackets in their quest for a 2018 title. All proceeds will go to the CHS football program, but the primary goal of the promotion is to create spirit and pride for the team as they enter this year's playoffs.
Available items for sale will include short sleeved T-shirts, long sleeved T-shirts, crew neck sweatshirts and hooded sweatshirts. All items will be orange with a two-sided/front and back black and white print. The team roster of players and coaches will be listed on the back of the shirts along with an appropriate YellowJacket logo. The items are being produced by an IHSA licensed company, so the official IHSA logo will also be featured on the items.
Order forms are available at the Chester High School office, or on Facebook. Prepayment must accompany all orders. Order deadline will be noon Monday. Oct. 22. Payment by check should be made out to Chester High School. Delivery of items will be at CHS on Thursday Oct. 25 and/or Friday Oct. 26.
