Ellis Grove woman dies in house fire

An Ellis Grove woman was killed Oct. 14 in a fire at her home, according to Ellis Grove fire officials and the Randolph County Coroner's office.

Glenda Byram, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the fire, according to a statement from the coroner's office.

Ellis Grove Fire Chief Mike Jackson said firefighters were called to Bryam's house at 312 Forest Drive by Byram's grandson around 1:50 a.m. When they arrived, flames were shooting out of the front windows and smoke was coming out of the front of the house. Firefighters were about to extinguish the flames quickly, Jackson said, limiting the extent of fire damage to the living room area, with smoke damage throughout the house,

Firefighters found Byram inside the house, Jackson said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Illinois State Fire Marshall. About 15 firefighters battled the fire, with Chester Fire Derpartment personnel providing backup, Jackson said.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, with Rev. Phillip Keeton officiating, according to the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.
