Start of home heating assistance and PIPP enrollment begins Oct. 1

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - Shawnee Development Council lnc. has announced that seniors and people with disabilities can apply for PIPP or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program beginning Oct. 1. through Nov. 1.

Families with children age 5 or under, and disconnected or imminent disconnect households can start applying.

All other income eligible households not eligible during the priority enrollment can apply beginning Dec. 3.

A single-person household can qualify with a monthly income for up to $1,518 a two-person household up to $2,058, three-person household $2,598 four-person household $83,138 and a family of five up to $3,678. Benefits are paid directly to utilities on behalf of eligible households.

The exception is households whose heating costs are included in their rent.

L111EAP applications will be taken based on a first-come, first-served basis until May 31, 2019, or until funding is exhausted.
