Apple music! Local bands perform well at Murphy Apple Festival

MURPHYSBORO - Pinckneyville Community High School's Marching Panthers dominated the high school Class A division in the Murphysboro Apple Festival Grand Parade last Saturday, as well as in the Drums at the Appletime Field Show Competition.

For the parade, PCHS won awards for the Best Drum Majors, Auxiliary, Percussion and Overall Band. In the field show, PCHS won awards for Drum Majors, Auxiliary, Percussion, Music Performance, Visual Performance and Overall Band.

In the Junior High/Middle School division, Pinckneyville Junior High won awards for Drum Majors, Auxiliary, Percussion and Overall Band. Junior high band director Amber Nichols said the color guard was able to update its 25-year-old uniforms to the new digitally printed uniform tunic, thanks to District 50 and the Pinckneyville Music Association.

Du Quoin Middle School placed second in the Junior High/Middle School division.
