JOHNSTON CITY -- Johnston City resident Liz Kouzoukas never knew a holiday she didn't love. That helps explains her passion for spending a lot of time decorating the exterior of her home on Benton Avenue.
The retired nurse said of the house's current patriotic theme, "I did this for the Fourth of July, and before long, I'll be taking it all back down, storing it and then getting everything out to decorate for Halloween. Christmas and Halloween are the holidays I spend the most time on."
Kouzoukas's love of seasonal decorating brings her joy,
"Oh, yes. I guess you could call it my hobby," she said. "People seem to really enjoy it, too. If I get behind, my neighbors remind me with comments. They say things like, 'Hey, you don't have your lights up yet.'"
It's a hobby that might seem expensive to some, but the cost, Kouzoukas said, is not exorbitant.
"I buy nearly all my stuff on sale, after the holidays are over," she explained.
One other thing that Kouzoukas seems especially proud of is the reaction of youngsters who see it.
"The kids always love my Halloween and Christmas decorations and I love the way it makes them smile."
