Bitter primary ends with Craig ousting Saline County Clerk Buchanan

Saline County Board member Roger Craig defeated incumbent Saline County Clerk Kim Buchanan Tuesday night in a contest Craig said revealed voter dissatisfaction with the status quo.

Unofficial results show Craig won the Republican primary contest, 1,406 votes to 987.

Buchanan, who will step down after the November election, said Tuesday, "I will finish my two terms of office on Nov. 30, 2018, with pride and dignity.

"I am very proud of the milestones that I have accomplished over the past 7½ years," she added.

Craig, meanwhile, said the people of Saline County, "have seen what kind of shape the clerk's office has been in and they felt they needed to make a change."

"I want to thank everybody that I did so well," he said. "You know, I've been around a long time and a lot of people know me. I just appreciate their support."

Craig pledged to do his best to work with county government if elected in November.

"I'll do the best I can to work with the county board and the treasurer and all the offices," Craig said.

Craig will face longtime county clerk employee Julie Dunn, a Democrat, in the general election. She was unopposed in the primary.
