Saline schools had varied approaches to 'walkouts'

SALINE COUNTY - Schools in Saline County had various approaches to working with students wishing to participate in a national statement about gun violence in schools on Wednesday.

In Carrier Mills, Superintendent and high school principal Bryce Jerrell met with student council members in the morning to discuss school safety. Jerrell has a meeting regarding school safety on March 23 with other Saline County superintendents, local law enforcement, Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek and state and federal government officials. Jerrell wanted to collect student input to present for the meeting.

Galatia Superintendent Shain Crank reported that some students participated in the walkout, which "went very well with no incidents."

Eldorado Superintendent and high school Principal Ryan Hobbs said there was no student participation at Eldorado.

At Harrisburg, Superintendent Mike Gauch said there wasn't participation at the high school. At Harrisburg Middle School, students participated before returning to classes.
