Thompsonville woman killed in fatal crash near Galatia

GALATIA - A Thompsonville woman is dead after her car crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming truck Friday, according to Illinois State Police District 19.

According to an ISP news release Friday evening, at about 1:38 p.m., Danielle P. Steiner, 20, of Thompsonville, was northbound on Illinois 34, just north of Webber Cemetery Road, when her gray 2004 Ford Taurus crossed the center line into the southbound lane for unknown reasons.

A 1998 International truck, driven by Marshall W. Cissna, 47, of Nortonville, Ky., was in the southbound lane and was unable to avoid Steiner's car. Cissna's truck struck Steiner's car on the driver's side door.

Steiner was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Saline County Coroner's Office. Cissna was not injured.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office announced a temporary road closure of Illinois 34 Friday afternoon while emergency workers were on the scene. The road later was reopened.

An ISP crash reconstruction officer has been assigned to assist with the crash investigation.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Saline County Ambulance Service, Saline County Coroner's Office, Galatia Police Department, Galatia Fire/Rescue, Jones' Towing Service, and Vernell's Towing Service.
