Waterloo man charged in fatal Red Bud stabbing

A Waterloo man was charged with involuntary manslaughter Monday following the fatal stabbing of a man in Red Bud on Jan. 6, authorities said.

Kodi A. Lafore, 22, of Waterloo, was charged in connection with the death of Adam J. Sesto, 36, of Red Bud, on Jan, 6, Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy R. Walker said. Lafore, who was arrested by Waterloo police Sunday morning, was being held in Randolph County Jail on $50,000 bond pending a court hearing Tuesday.

The stabbing occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Jan. 6 near the intersection of Huntfield and Blackjack roads in rural Red Bud, according to a release from Walker's office. Sesto was taken from the scene by a witness to Red Bud Regional Hospital. The hospital notified Randolph County Sheriff's police of the stabbing.

Sesto later died from the injuries sustained by the knife wound, according to the release.

An investigation by the Randolph and Monroe County sheriff's police, the Waterloo Police Department and Illinois State Police resulted in the identification of a Lafore as a suspect, according to Walker.

"We have been working this case almost nonstop since Saturday night," Walker said. "All witnesses to the events of Jan. 6 have been interviewed, some multiple times. At this time, we feel this is the most appropriate charge resulting from the events of that evening."

Walker did not say if a motive had been determined for the stabbing, but cautioned the public about relying on the credibility of social media postings about the case.

"Cases are not tried on Facebook or other social media sites and what happened the night of Jan. 6 will ultimately be revealed in a court of law, at the appropriate time," he said.
