Deer cause more accidents

Deer have been blamed for several more accidents, including two that occurred about an hour and a half apart on Jan. 4.

According to the Perry County Sheriff's Office, 61-year-old Cheryl A. Gilliam, of Tamaroa, was driving a Toyota Tacoma V6 eastbound on Sassafras Road when she struck a deer that entered the roadway 150 feet east of Davisville Road.

The collision caused minor damage to the front end of the vehicle and Gilliam was not injured. The vehicle was driven from the scene of the accident, which was reported at 5:12 p.m.

At 6:46 p.m., deputies responded to a deer hit in the 600 block of State Route 13/127. Twenty-four-year-old Christiana R. Newton, of Marion, was driving a Honda Accord eastbound on the highway when it collided with a deer that entered the roadway, causing major damage to the front of the Accord.

Neither Newton, nor a 48-year-old passenger in her vehicle, Threasa K. Graham, of Marissa, were injured. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Emling's Towing Service.

On Jan. 5, Perry County deputies responded to another deer-involved accident on Pyatt-Cutler Road near Woodchuck Road. The driver, 48-year-old Barbara L. Tuthill, of Elkville, was traveling eastbound on Pyatt-Cutler Road when a deer entered the roadway, causing damage to the front of the vehicle. Tuthill was not injured and the accident was reported at 8 p.m.
