Harrisburg woman safe after being near NYC bombing

HARRISBURG - A Harrisburg woman visiting New York City was awakened Monday morning by texts asking if she was OK - a terrorist had partially detonated a homemade bomb near where she was staying.

The would-be terrorist set off a pipe bomb at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square. No one was killed and the bomber and at least five other people were treated for injuries from the explosion.

When news of the bombing was reported, though, all friends and family knew was that Stacy Hayes Wasson was in New York and staying close to where the bombing occurred.

"This morning we were awakened by texts from home asking if we were OK, so we turned on the news and watched it," she said. "I went outside our hotel on 39th Street and everyone seemed normal, which I thought was odd."

The incident caused a little difficulty navigating through the city.

"Tons of streets were closed, so it was a little hard to get around," she said. Wasson shared photos of the scene, where she passed by Monday evening.

"We just passed there on our way back from Central Park. Police are still there, and news people," she said.
