HARRISBURG -- The Harrisburg City Council recognized the hard work and success of the marching bands for both Harrisburg High School and Harrisburg Middle School at the beginning of Thursday's city council meeting.

"I would like to recognize two groups of students who work hard and who barely get any recognition for their work," Mayor John McPeek said.

He also commended HHS band director Hannah Drake and HMS band director Marc Henshaw for their work with their musicians, along with high school Principal Scott Dewar.

"The city of Harrisburg acknowledges everything you've done for our band students," McPeek said.

City commissioner Beth Montfort, a retired teacher, also commended the band.

"Personally, I'd like to thank you as a teacher in the district for 25 years. You should be very proud," Montfort said. "And parents, you should be very proud of your kids. You don't always get all the recognition you deserve. And, you have an awesome principal I used to work with, Scott (Dewar)."
