Two injured in single-car wreck in Gallatin County

GALLATIN COUNTY -- One person was airlifted to a regional hospital after the car he was a passenger in was involved in a wreck Saturday, according to Illinois State Police District 19.

Dalton D. Gunter, 18, of Shawneetown was a passenger in a silver 2007 Jeep Commander driven by a 16-year-old juvenile that was traveling eastbound on Illinois 13 approaching Head Lane at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and left the north side of the roadway. After traveling off the roadway, it struck an embankment and overturned several times before coming to rest.

Both the driver and Gunter were taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later taken to a regional hospital. Gunter was airlifted from the crash scene. The driver was cited for improper lane usage.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, Shawneetown Police Department, Shawneetown Fire Department, Med Force Ambulance Service, Air Evac, and C & T Towing.
