Library window dedication planned for Oct. 9

If you've driven by or, better yet, visited the Du Quoin Library lately, you've seen it's facelift: brand new windows installed. And if you're a regular, you must have noticed how quiet it is in the library these days.

You can thank the new windows. Library Director Kristina Benson worked to get the grant that made the window project possible and said there are still a few stubborn leaks.

"We know that there will be a few problems that we will continue to battle," she said. "We need some flashing on our awning, the one that was damaged in the last storm."

The windows - and an accompanying plaque - will be dedicated during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Oct. 9. The dedication ceremony will be held in conjunction with a reception for local photographers whose work will be displayed during the fall months.

The windows were made possible through a state Live and Learn Construction grant. Marion Glass and Mirror installed the windows. The project cost $31,155.

The old library windows were 49 years old and were replaced with dual-pane, tinted, thermal windows to increase energy efficiency, decrease noise from the outside and help eliminate water leakage.
