Disobeyed stop sign results in wreck, injuries, police say

GALLATIN COUNTY – A disobeyed stop sign at the intersection of Illinois routes 141 and 1 resulted in multiple injuries to the drivers and passengers in one of two cars in a collision late Sunday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, Dayna M. Gillham, 55, of Glen Ellyn, was driving northbound on Illinois 1 in her 2010 Ford Escape at about 11 a.m.

About the same time, Ashley D. Hester was stopped at the westbound stop sign on Illinois 141 at the intersection in her 2012 Ford Edge.

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, Hester entered the intersection as she began to complete her turn southbound onto Illinois 1 when Gillham failed to stop at the Illinois 1 northbound stop sign and struck Hester's car in the intersection.

In addition to Hester, Elisabeth Boarman, 20, of Mount Vernon, Ind., Tanner A. Boarman, 23, Mount Vernon, Ind., Matthew J. Bauer, 23, of Evansville, Ind. and a 6-year-old juvenile of Evansville, Ind. were taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries resulting from the crash.

Neither Gillham nor her passengers, Glenda A. Fisher, 76, of Schaumburg, Candace N. Gillham, 33, of St. Charles, and two juveniles ages 9 and 1 from St. Charles, reported any injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Dayna M. Gillham was issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, Gallatin County Ambulance Service, Ridgway Police Department, Omaha Fire and Rescue, and S & E Automotive.
