Red Bud man sentenced for meth conspiracy

A 32-year-old Red Bud man will spend more than a decade in prison after being sentenced in U.S. district court on July 27 to serve 140 months behind bars on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Colty T. Peak previously pleaded guilty to the indictment, which alleged that the offense occurred between November 2013 and August 2015 in Perry, Randolph, Monroe, Jackson and St. Clair counties.

Evidence at the plea and at sentencing established that Peak was involved with other persons in the manufacture of meth and distribution of meth ice in southern Illinois. Meth ice has a purity level of at least 80 percent and the court found Peak was responsible for the possession or distribution of 240.8 grams of meth ice and 332.4 grams of pseudoephredrine.

Co-defendant Dyllan Wayland was previously sentenced to 100 months of imprisonment for his role in the meth ice conspiracy, while another co-defendant, Joseph Hatley, has also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

Peak was also sentenced to four years of supervised release and fined $300. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Perry County Sheriff's Office, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Percy Police Department, Steeleville Police Department, Sparta Police Department and Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Randolph County State's Attorney's Office also assisted in the investigation.
