Eldorado Garden Study Club celebrates club president's rebuilt home

A tour of the new home and burgeoning garden of Eldorado Garden Study Club President Jan Cleveland in Carmi highlighted the June club meeting.

This was a special meeting because Jan and her husband, David, lost their home a year ago in a fire and have since rebuilt. This was the first time club members saw the couple's new house.

The Clevelands are currently in the process of landscaping their yard. Club members gifted them with perennials so Jan could establish a friendship garden.

After a tour of the home, the group gathered in the family room for a short meeting. One of the topics covered was National Garden Week in early June and the reading of the annual proclamation at the office of Mayor Rocky James.

Also, there was a discussion about the illegible writing on the boulders on the Avenue of Honor, which club members hoped to quickly rectify.

Since June was the month of the club's birthday - the club turned 71 this year - members adjourned to Family Traditions Restaurant in downtown Carmi to celebrate with a birthday luncheon, complete with birthday cake.

In addition to Jan Cleveland, club members in attendance included Lynnie Upchurch, Carol Hines, Ellen Butler, Donna Barton, Wanda Brown, Mary Jo Oldham Morgan, Cindy Watson, Emily Henson, Marilyn Ellis, Donna Hearn, Dana Keating, Maxine Schimp, Carole Schneider, Esther Bornert and her sister Deloris.
