Police: Street Machine weekend was quiet

For yet another year, local law enforcement had few troubles related to Street Machine Nationals.

The Illinois State Police reported Monday that from June 23 to 25, troopers made only one criminal arrest as part of their detail surrounding the event at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, as well as just four speeding citations.

In all, troopers issued 18 citations and 29 total warnings.

"I want to express a special thanks to the attendees who exercised restraint toward making this event family friendly and safe for all attending," said Lt. Michael Alvey, the commander for ISP districts 13 and 22.

The event was a longstanding tradition in Du Quoin until unruly behavior contributed to its demise in 1998. The annual event finally returned in 2013 and since has seen far calmer crowds.
