Du Quoin Garden Club works to maintain the grandstand memorial

In remembrance of all veterans, the Du Quoin Garden Club gives the Blue Star Marker at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds much-needed attention.

The Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker was dedicated during the Du Quoin State Fair in August 2007. The marker was sponsored by Garden Clubs of Illinois in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the governor and first lady, and the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.

The Blue Star Memorial Marker Program, a project of the National Garden Clubs Inc., began in 1945 to honor the men and women serving the Armed Forces during World War II. The name was chosen for the star on flags displayed in homes and businesses denoting a family member serving. Today, the Blue Star Memorial Program extends thousands of miles across the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii.

The area around the Marker has been cleaned out and freshly mulched in cooperation with the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds and grounds maintenance. Red, white and blue petunias have been planted in front of the marker in honor of our Veterans.

The Blue Star Marker is located in front of the grandstand.
