'Julius Caesar' coming to Harrisburg library

HARRISBURG – The Ides of March may long be past, but that won't stop Julius Caesar from appearing at Harrisburg District Library on Monday.

More specifically, Shakespeare troupe "Stone Soup Shakespeare" will perform the tragedy of the Roman leader at 6 p.m. Monday outside of the library, according to Library Director Krystal Gulley.

"They do this every year, where they travel to different places and perform, sort of like a 'Shakespeare in the Park' production," Gulley said. "They have quick changes, simple set pieces and they'll perform it right here on the library lawn."

In case of rain, the library will use the First Presbyterian Church's annex nearby, but Gulley said she hopes the venue will remain outside.

"It's a lot of fun, and it's always good," she said.

The performance is free to the public, and those wishing to attend are invited to bring lawn chairs and something to eat if desired, she said.

"The idea is, you're supposed to be able to bring a lawn chair, dinner and sit and watch the show," she said.

Stone Soup Shakespeare asks that those attending bring a non-perishable food item that may be donated to local food banks, according to the group's news release about their 2017 Shakespeare tour.
